DOMAN

Dave and Jean originally lived in the Toronto area and in 1973 they decided they would like an outdoors type of dog. They looked in the local paper for an Irish Setter. Fortunately there weren?t any, but there were Golden Retrievers. The breeder had a male and 2 females. We chose a female, called her Sheba and that started our 44 year love affair with  Goldens. Fortunately Sheba had a very nice pedigree, her sire being Ch. Symbol of Yeo, and she formed the foundation of their breeding programme. With help and guidance from Golden breeders such as Jack Reid (Goldrange) and Ainslie Mills (Oriana) they bred 21 litters over a 27 year period under the Doman's prefix and can boast numerous show champions, obedience, tracking and field successes.  Other than Sheba their girls have all been show champions.

In 1975, the Doman's moved to the Vancouver area and in 1977 joined the G.R.C.B.C. They have been a part of many G.R.C.B.C. functions over the years, making a lot of good friends through Club contacts and serving in their earlier years as members of the Executive.  Dave was the Club Treasurer for numerous terms and Jean was often involved in hospitality, famous for her Nanaimo bars.

As of 2017, Dave and Jean now just have one boy, Gizmo, coming up 9 years old and they believe he will be their last Golden.  A strong boy, several times he has led Dave to do a face plant when Giz has wanted to go in a different direction.  Now that middle age has come to Giz, things are more sedate!
